ATHLETES

Athlete-Centered Therapy: A Comprehensive Overview

Athlete-centered therapy is an approach to mental health that prioritizes

the unique needs, goals and experiences of the athlete.

As an All-American Cheerleader, a Division 1 swimmer and an individual

who prioritizes physical exercise to help manage my mental and physical health,

I understand the importance of a healthy mind-body connection when performing at a high level.

Athlete-centered therapy takes into account the specific challenges

that athletes face both inside and outside of their sports environments.

At the core of this therapy model is the understanding that athletes are not just physical performers,

but individuals with psychological, emotional, and social needs. I work collaboratively

with the athlete to create a treatment plan that aligns with their personal values,

athletic goals, and individual circumstances.

In athlete-centered therapy, mental health support addresses a variety

of concerns including performance anxiety, stress management,

self-esteem, body image issues, and the mental strain of dealing with injuries or burnout.

I use a range of techniques—such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT),

mindfulness, DBT and motivational interviewing—to help athletes develop coping skills,

mental resilience, and a healthier mindset.

Athlete-centered therapy aims to create a balanced approach to performance and well-being,

ensuring that athletes are not only successful in their sport,

but also equipped to lead fulfilling lives outside of it.
