Individual Therapy: An Overview
Individual therapy, also known as psychotherapy or counseling, is a form of psychological treatment
where a person works one-on-one with a therapist to address emotional, mental or behavioral issues.
My goal is to help individuals understand their feelings, develop coping strategies,
and improve their overall mental health. The work of therapy involves learning
new ways of managing emotions, changing behaviors that contribute to problems,
and challenging faulty assumptions often that are often rooted in earlier experiences.
In individual therapy, I will use various therapeutic approaches based
on my client’s concerns and goals.
Types of Therapy Utilized:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Helps clients identify and change thought and behavior patterns.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Understand and Accept difficult feelings. Learn Skills to manage these feelings.
Make positive changes in your life
Solution Therapy
A collaborative approach that helps clients identify and achieve their goals,
focusing on the present and the future.
The process of individual therapy typically begins with an intake session where
I gather information about the client’s history, current challenges, and therapy goals.
Over time, sessions usually last between 45-60 minutes.
My client and I will work collaboratively to identify specific issues,
set treatment goals, and develop strategies to address them.
Key benefits of individual therapy include providing a safe and nonjudgmental space for self-exploration,
offering emotional support, and helping individuals develop healthier coping skills.
Therapy can be beneficial for managing anxiety, depression, relationship problems,
trauma, grief, and other mental health concerns. It also supports personal growth,
helping clients build self-awareness and increase emotional resilience.
Individual therapy can be short-term, focusing on specific issues, or long-term,
addressing deeper-rooted concerns. The length and frequency of therapy depend
on the nature of the issues being treated and the client’s progress.
